Good Morning Girls

18 01 2012

I just don’t have the desire or the time to be away from the house during the evenings; I’m barely with my children enough as it is. However, I really wanted the fellowship of doing a Bible study, as well as the support and insight it brings. A good friend signed me up for Good Morning Girls: a FB and internet based online Bible study. There are about 5,000 participants divided into smaller more intimate groups. We follow the S.O.A.P practice: Study a passage, make 1-2 Observations, 1-2 Applications to your own life, and Prayer. I love the 12 week M-F structure which forces me to focus, really focus, on a few verses at a time. Sometimes I feel like I need to do more, read more, know more, study more, but I’m not really fully understanding anything. This is a great way to slow down, get intimate with God, and dig deep into a passage. Here’s today’s verses (Ephesians 1:7-10) along with a few insights:

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

A friend in the group responded: “There sure isn’t much we can do to earn His salvation- actually there is nothing but accepting and believing!”

I’m a very type A personality, especially at work. Throughout the day I have MY to do list, MY goals I want to accomplish, MY ideas… passages like this remind me that I’m not in control!  I thank God that He has a plan for me.

I am very much enjoying this online/fb group, too. The passages this week just continued to confirm what you just wrote: It’s all about HIM…HIS plan, HIS chosen people, and HIS grace. Looking forward to reading future posts.
